Informação
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be the first edition expanded from 32 to 48 teams. The tournament will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico from June 11 to July 19, 2026. The 48 teams will be divided into 12 groups of 4 teams each. Each group will play a single round-robin format. The top 2 teams from each group plus the 8 best third-placed teams (a total of 32 teams) will advance to the Round of 32. From the Round of 32 onward (Round of 16, Quarter-finals, Semi-finals, Third-place play-off, and Final), all matches will be single-leg knockout ties. If a match is tied after 90 minutes, it will go to extra time; if still tied after extra time, the winner will be decided by a penalty shoot-out. Group Stage Ranking Rules: Teams are ranked in the following order: Highest total points in the group stage, superior goal difference in all group matches, highest number of goals scored in all group matches; If the above three criteria are still equal, ranking is determined by: Highest points obtained in the matches between the tied teams, superior goal difference in the matches between the tied teams, highest number of goals scored in the matches between the tied teams; If the above six criteria are still equal, ranking is determined by: 1. Fair play points (deduction system) - 1 yellow card = −1 point 2. Indirect red card (second yellow) = −3 points 3. Direct red card = −4 points 4. Yellow card + direct red card in the same match = −5 points If all the above conditions still fail to separate the teams: Drawing of lots by the FIFA Organizing Committee.
