Preliminary Round
4 teams from Serie C compete against 4 newly promoted teams from Serie B; the winners advance to the Round of 36.
First Phase
First Round, Second Round, and Third Round. This phase involves a wide range of teams, including those from Serie C1 and C2, as well as teams from Serie B and lower-ranked teams from the previous Serie A season. Matches in this phase are all single-leg knockouts.
Latest Rule Changes: Starting from the 2024/25 season, the Coppa Italia rules have been adjusted: for matches prior to the semi-finals, if the score remains level after 90 minutes, the winner will be decided directly via a penalty shootout.
Second Phase
Quarter-finals, Semi-finals, and the Final. Except for the semi-finals, which use a two-legged format, all matches are single-leg knockouts. The final is held at a neutral venue, the Stadio Olimpico in Rome. For the semi-finals and the final, if the score is tied after 90 minutes, 30 minutes of extra time will be played. If the score remains level after extra time, the match will be decided by a penalty shootout.
